Mercedes’ expertise is focused on advancing synergies across Interreg programmes. Her work is mainly directed toward two key areas: governance and coordination within the Mediterranean region through MedLab , and Interreg’s contributions to a More Social Europe . She collaborates with colleagues on capitalising and transferring Interreg results into public policies and transnational programmes. Currently, she is part of the post-27 .

Her experience in cohesion policy dates back to 2001. She has been involved with Interreg since 2008, specifically working with Interreg Med.
